Looking for Maternal Wellbeing Support?
Welcome to MAIA
our maternal empowerment programme
Bringing a new life into this world is a miracle. Many of us dream of becoming mothers from a young age. But what is that dream in reality?
The vast majority of support offered to women, as preparation for motherhood is centred around the birth of their child, and then how to look after their baby.
This is of course vital information, and we wholehearted support this work.
But there is a huge lack of education around maternal wellbeing and Matrescence support for women.
What even is Matrescence?
Matrescence is the term to describe the changes a women will go through mental and physically from pregnancy into motherhood, it also covers that changes of our place in society and in relationships. It is one of the largest changes a women will ever face, with scientists confirming now that it is just as profound to women as adolescence is to teenagers.
Yet where is the education, the preparation for these changes? Even the word is only known by small number of people, most of whom are working hard in this field to try and make an impact in the area.
The fact that women are so unaware of the huge changes that they could experience could help us to understand why maternal mental health is so challenging.
At present the NHS figures show that 1 in 4 women will suffer with their maternal mental health in the first 24 months of motherhood. But the NCT think the figure could be as high as 1 in 2 as it only reflects the number of women who have reported to them.
There are many reasons why women don’t seek help.
And unfortunately asking for help doesn’t necessarily get it.
We passionately support the NHS but it is clear to see that they are unable to cope with the huge number of pressures they are facing.
With a report last year here, highlighting the extent to which women are suffering with no support.
20k women asked for help and received none! Then of the women who did get support, 1000s were left waiting months and months for that help. Which can massively exacerbate problems and leave women struggling to cope.
Our mission is born out of own experiences with maternal mental health and a huge passion for making this better for new mothers and their families.
Before we dive into our maternal empowerment programme you could be thinking this is all very well, but as an employer what is my role in all this?

What is our maternal empowerment programme?
It’s a comprehensive education programme that supports women to understand the transformations they could be going through and give them the tools and knowledge to help them navigate the changes and challenges they may experience.
As the name suggests this is a proactive programme that aims to empower women to look after themselves and their families.
Research shows Women are most at risk from maternal mental health issues for 24 months around birth and into motherhood, that’s why our programme is for a full 24 months.
Working with 6 amazing female coaches, who all have their own maternal mental health experiences, we have created a programme which covers Matrescence, Mental health, Nutrition, Mindfulness, Breathwork and Maternity leave.
Each theme is covered over 4 videos, which are supported by live online events, and midwife Q&A sessions too.
We were really upset to hear how long women were waiting for help in the xxx report and guardian article last year so we decided to add an extended length counselling session to all our mothers so they can have direct access to initial support right away.
Our holistic approach also includes our digital nature wellbeing classes which offer women a mix of exercise, meditations, and positive affirmations with beautiful video montages of the natural world which are scientifically proven to help reduce stress and build tolerance to future stress too, perfect for new mothers who can be stuck at home. You can find out more about our unique classes here.
